- One foot forward, toes right up against the wall and pointing straight at it
- The other foot a comfortable step behind, for balance
- Hands on the wall to steady you
- Weight light on the front leg. You're reading the ankle, not forcing it
Keeping the front heel pressed flat on the floor, bend that front knee forward and touch it to the wall. At this range it's easy, most people manage it without thinking. Now shuffle the front foot back from the wall a little and do it again, heel still flat, knee still reaching to touch. Then back a bit more. Keep edging away until you find the spot where the knee will only just touch with the heel staying down. That gap between your toes and the wall is your limit. Note where it is, then repeat it all on the other side.
