Where your distance went

It's rarely the swing, it's the body under it

Past 50, the limit usually isn't your technique, it's the body under it: the turn shortens, the back tightens by the ninth, the closing holes feel nothing like the first. That's rarely age alone, more often physical limits you can train to improve.

A good swing, and the distance and accuracy it brings, come from four things working together: coordination, so the swing fires in the right order; mobility, for a full turn that loads behind the ball; stability, a solid base so no power leaks away; and strength, to drive it through impact. Each one fades a little over time, and each one can be rebuilt. Do that, and the yards and accuracy return.

I've spent around 15 years helping people over 50 move better, and golfers are some of the most driven I work with. You already have the swing. What's usually holding it back sits lower down: hips that won't turn, a mid-back gone stiff, not enough stability underneath to push from. Sort that and the swing has somewhere to go.

I keep it simple and honest. I build around what your body can do today, not what it could 20 years ago, and we go forward from there. The aim is a freer turn, more in the tank for the back nine, and a round that doesn't leave you aching for two days after. I work online, writing bespoke golf programmes for players wherever they are.
